  • A break here (always here, never Owen Owen) while shopping with my mum and Auntie Alice in the 50s. Orange juice for me; tea and cigarettes for them. The wallpaper, the lights – I recognised the place in a moment.

  • Really like the pink Xmas trees – funny but very meloncholic

  • I used to bunk off school with my mate Rob Trust, and we would always go to lewiss’s cafe, why don’t they open the fifth floor up to let people have alook around, charge a fee and give it to the people of Haiti, i’m sure their are enough curous people around ?

  • I think it would be a wonderful idea to open the fifth floor for people to have a look, My grandfather and great grandfather painted most of the inside of lewis’s shortly after the war as they have both since passed away i find this fifth floor fascinating!

  • What wonderful images. We lived in North Wales and visited Liverpool to shop. After a long journey, changing trains and buses three times my Mother took us to Lewis’s cafeteria for breakfast. It was fantastic to a young child and I have never forgotten the images on the tiles. I remember gazing at them waiting for our breakfast of ‘Welsh Rarebit.’
I am now retired and have taken art as a hobby.I was describing the tiles , designed with cutlery, to the art teacher as the design fitted in with our project. I was so excited to receive an E-mail from her today . She had been to an exhibition in Liverpool and seen those very images I was talking about. I was thrilled to see them on Stephen Kings web site. Is there a poster available? Fantastic, made an eldery (ish) lady very happy. Thanks

  • I am so sad that Lewis’s is now shut! I am 26 and grew up in Liverpool. Everytime my friends and i would go to town shopping, we would always get off the bus by Lewis’s and walk through. I feel now i didnt really appreciate the beauty of the building. I would love to view the 5th Floor, i think they should definately open it to the public. Thank you for taking pictures of hidden gem in Liverpool for all to see.
